The EnCorps CTE Mentorship Alliance has been a rewarding experience. We’re now in the second year of our partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), and were excited to roll out our new framework. This new approach, developed from feedback from our first cohort, allows us to bring our mentorship program to the forefront.
By collaborating with LAUSD in our first year, we were able to perfect our program and add more key components to support future CTE instructors. Similar to the first session we hosted in Year 1, we felt the energy shift and knew we were heading the right direction for this year’s kick off!
To guide our teachers toward success, we implemented a few key changes:
- Hosting sessions on weekdays: Shifting our sessions to weekdays was a huge win. We had 100% attendance and felt a great sense of enthusiasm and energy. Teachers didn’t feel as pressured to attend as they had during previous weekend sessions which made the classroom less heavy and more inviting. We get it–we like our weekend time too!!.
- More mentorship time: By extending the time for teachers to speak with their mentors, new instructors felt more comfortable opening up about the issues they were facing. They got the advice they needed on topics like communicating with families and using artificial intelligence in the classroom. This real-time feedback from experienced teachers is invaluable.
- SUPER Experienced LAUSD instructors: We brought in two phenomenal leaders from LAUSD to work with our new and seasoned CTE teachers. Their perspective provided another resource for the cohort as they continue their teaching careers.
From the flow of the day to the connections that were forming, we’re thrilled with our first session and look forward to the next three with LAUSD.
