Congratulations to Anne Maytubby, a San Diego-based EnCorps Fellow and recipient of the Will Rapp Teaching Scholarship.

The Will Rapp Teaching Scholarship was created in recognition of longtime EnCorps Fellow Will Rapp and his continued commitment to students and STEM education. After transitioning into the classroom as a teacher, Will remained involved with EnCorps through STEM tutoring and ongoing support of students beyond his own classroom experience.

The scholarship recognizes a Fellow who demonstrates a strong commitment to teaching, meaningful engagement with students, and a desire to help students connect STEM learning to the real world.

Before entering education, Anne worked in environmental and climate-related fields, supporting utility-scale and community-scale solar projects and collaborating with Indigenous tribal leaders on environmental initiatives. Her work focused on helping communities address environmental and climate inequities.

Anne is currently pursuing her MA and teaching credential through the Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP).

During her Volunteer Guest Teaching placement in a high school biology classroom, Anne led a mini-project focused on water quality and sustainability in San Diego waterways. Students collected samples, analyzed their findings, and explored how science can help communities better understand local environmental challenges.

Throughout her Fellowship experience with EnCorps STEM Teachers Program, Anne demonstrated a thoughtful and student-centered approach to teaching while helping students see how science connects to the world around them.

“I want to contribute by helping students understand why certain math and science concepts are important in the day-to-day and in careers where you are using STEM concepts, like the job I ended up taking that I didn’t even know existed. I want to show kids the side of STEM you can’t see in a textbook.”

Anne’s journey reflects the kind of commitment to students and real-world STEM learning this scholarship was created to recognize.
