Congratulations to Samina Shetty, a Bay Area-based EnCorps Fellow and recipient of the 2026 Arthur Housinger Memorial Scholarship.
Established in 2020, the Arthur Housinger Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of EnCorps Fellow Arthur Housinger, who transitioned from a successful software engineering career into teaching in underserved Bay Area schools. Arthur was known throughout the EnCorps community for his generosity, curiosity, kindness, and commitment to helping students discover excitement and confidence in math and science.
The scholarship recognizes Fellows who demonstrate strong commitment to STEM education, meaningful engagement with students, and alignment with Arthur’s spirit of community and service.
Before entering education, Samina worked in technology as an IT Program Manager and Solution Technology Manager. She helped organizations improve systems and operations through technology and process design. Outside of work, she consistently dedicated time to supporting students and school communities through volunteer service, including serving as a Project Cornerstone Reader and PTA President.
Through EnCorps STEM Teachers Program, Samina completed her Volunteer Guest Teaching placement in a geometry classroom at Fremont High School. During her placement, she worked closely with students and her host teacher to create an engaging and supportive classroom environment.
Samina is currently pursuing both her MA and teaching credential in mathematics at San José State University.
Throughout the Fellowship experience, Samina demonstrated a deep commitment to equitable STEM learning and helping students connect classroom concepts to their own futures.
“I know that districts sometimes lack resources and availability. I want to bridge the gap and I want to make a difference. I want to ignite that passion in students and help them understand those underlying concepts and what they can achieve.”
Samina’s dedication to students, thoughtful approach to teaching, and commitment to STEM education reflect the legacy Arthur Housinger left within the EnCorps community.
About the Arthur Housinger Memorial Scholarship

The Arthur Housinger Memorial Scholarship ensures that Arthur’s legacy, light, and dedication to STEM education and his EnCorps Fellow community continue. After over two decades working in the software industry at top companies, Arthur turned his sights towards teaching in some of the most underserved schools in the Bay Area, to help disadvantaged students achieve everything that they can and inspire excitement and joy for math and computer science.
Arthur was known for his kindness, generosity, openness and thoughtfulness. He was a community builder and convener among his peers, the center of many circles of friends, and the organizer for most. The $3,000 Arthur Housinger Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a Fellow who displays the same spirit of friendship, fellowship, and community among the EnCorps Fellows and who shows a particular interest in teaching math and science.
