SAN DIEGO PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Like many EnCorps Fellows, Charles aspired to a career in education early on. As is so often the case, life happens and a career in education got put on hold until his light-bulb moment. While volunteering in his daughters’ kindergarten classes he realized that his place to have an impact was in the classroom. His dedication for serving at-risk students in high needs schools became his mission and passion, as a teacher for 9 years and school principal for 6 years in rural New Hampshire. As a native Californian, who proudly attended public schools K-12, he returned to the Golden State to begin a second education career, working with adult students. As an Adjunct Professor at National University, Charles supervises student teachers and interns throughout San Diego County. He also tutors students in academic writing at National. Charles holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a Master’s Degree in Education from Notre Dame College (New Hampshire), and an Administrative Credential K-12 from Plymouth (NH) State University. He strives to support aspiring mid-career STEM professionals in their transition to teaching, tapping into their broad range of skills and knowledge, to inspire a new generation of students to aspire to STEM professions.
